The cost of plastic surgery in Annapurna is on par with most other parts of Maryland, according to a new study by a Maryland hospital.
The study, which was published Tuesday, was funded by the National Institutes of Health and conducted by Johns Hopkins University’s School of Medicine.
It analyzed the average annual cost of outpatient plastic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and found that for an average patient, the average surgery costs $2,900, compared to $1,300 in Prince George’s County and $1-2,000 in Baltimore County.
The cost is slightly lower for those who had an MRI, and slightly higher for those with orthopedic surgery, the study found.
In the first phase of the study, about a quarter of the patients in the study underwent plastic surgery.
In phase two, more than 90 percent of the respondents received a full- or partial-surgery.
For the full- and partial-cost-of-surgeries, the survey found that the average cost was $1.25 million.
The average cost of orthopedics was $2.8 million, the cost of an MRI was $3.2 million and the cost for an orthopedist was $6.4 million, according the study.
It also said that for those in the lowest cost category, the costs of plastic surgeries were about half that of orthopaedics, and for orthopedists the average costs were about one-third the average of the other categories.
The report also showed that the overall average cost per procedure for a patient in the top 5 percent of patients was $16,900 for orthopeds, $18,000 for an MRI and $19,400 for an X-ray.
