Northside, TX (CBSDFW.COM) — Plastic surgery has become a hot topic in the area, especially in Northside.
Plastic surgeons are offering prices ranging from $5,000 to $7,500 for plastic surgery in North Dallas, according to the Northside Independent News Service.
Plastic surgery in the North Dallas area is also expensive compared to other parts of the country.
It costs about $7 million to $9 million to do a major operation, said Kim Jones, who is also a plastic surgeon at Northside Cosmetic.
Jones said she knows of two other Northside plastic surgeons who offer private surgery for $5 million or more.
Plastic Surgery is a lucrative career for a North Dallas plastic surgeon, but some are worried about the economic impacts.
Northside Mayor Jeff LeBlanc said the city is losing out on the jobs and tax revenue from a thriving business.
The North Dallas Plastic Surgery and Cosmetic Association is offering the following tips for parents, teachers and parents who are concerned about a child getting plastic surgery: Don’t pay for the procedure.
The surgery is not covered by insurance.
If you need to make a phone call, call a doctor.
Don’t take a child for a procedure you already have, unless you are the parent.
Don and your family should take a trip to a hospital before a procedure and make sure the doctor agrees with you.
Talk to your child’s doctor before a surgery.
Make sure they are comfortable with the procedure before getting the operation.
Know the procedure will not affect your child.
If the procedure is done, the child will not have to see a doctor for a few weeks after the procedure, said Jones.
LeBlanch said the North Texas Plastic Surgery Association is not endorsing any particular surgeon or company.
He said they do not have a formal policy on plastic surgery for adults.
He pointed to the guidelines for parents who want to have their child undergo a plastic surgery.
Parents can ask for more information at www.northsideplastic.org.
Parents and children should be informed of the procedures at the hospital before the procedure and at home, LeBlanche said.
Plastic surgeries are not covered through the insurance companies, which are reimbursed by the state.
The guidelines say a child’s insurance should cover the cost of surgery.
They also state that if a child is older than 18, parents should not have an open relationship with the surgeon, Jones said.
In Dallas, North Dallas residents can receive free plastic surgery from a plastic doctor, which includes reconstructive surgery and facial reconstruction, Jones added.
Plastic surgeon Kim Jones works at North Dallas Cosmetic and has done plastic surgery there since 2002.
