The American Academy of Ophthalmology says it will no longer recommend cosmetic surgery for people with scarring.
The move follows a growing number of studies that have found that cosmetic surgery does not help people recover from eye injuries.
Ophthalmology expert Dr. Jeffrey Bader says scars that are visible on the outside of the eye are common.
He says a plastic surgeon can easily spot them if you have scars, but not if you don’t.
In the meantime, he says people should always consult a plastic surgery specialist.
